ABOUT SKINNY RICKY & THE CASUAL ENCOUNTERS
Skinny Ricky & The Casual Encounters are a classic soul and R&B group from Santa Cruz, Ca.  We have a penchant for the deep soul music of the 1960’s, shining light on sounds and styles that have long since been forgotten.  We’re 8 members strong; fronting the band is the man himself Skinny Ricky. In support we have the ladies, 2 lovely and talented female backup singers. Our rhythm section (Trumpet, Sax, Guitar, Bass, Drums) keep things moving along real proper.  A hell of a live show and a real good time.  Cheers, y’all.

ABOUT HOOPTY
Funk.

It’s A word that is often thrown about haphazardly, frequently
misunderstood and often misused. It’s meaning has become watered down, not
unlike a poorly mixed cocktail, it’s potency has become lost  upon it’s
consumer. The casual musician might describe funk as a frenzied wah-wah
guitar or a heavily slapped bass. But, the real practitioner, or should I
say, connoisseur of funk, knows it’s the space between the notes where true
Funk resides.

Hoopty, a five piece Jazz-Funk band based out of the San Francisco Bay
Area, holds the groove paramount above all else. The pocket isn’t a
place where you put your keys, it’s where Funk lives. Influenced by
the true pioneers of the genre; James Brown, Maceo Parker, Parliament,
Stevie Wonder, The Meters, Hoopty draws from the masters and pushes
Funk into the 21st Century. Neo-Vintage Funk, a nod to the old-school
with sights set firmly on the horizon, Hoopty will make you move.

The group was formed in 2012 by Steven Glaze (bass), Stu Dean
(guitar), and Damien Gonzalez (drums). Long time band mates of
previous bands and veterans of the bay area music scene, Hoopty’s core
gelled instantly, exposing their unprecedented chemistry. Shortly
after, Vojta Jina from the Czech Republic joined the group on trumpet,
with Bay Area All-Star Kenny Schick rounding out the horn section on
sax.

Musically tight from day one, Hoopty has been blowing up the stage
with their all original songs and engaging performances. A blend of
Instrumental danceable funk, and accessible jazz melodies keep their
audience captivated and engaged. the boys have been playing regularly
at festivals and select venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area,
and are looking to build upon t’s fan base both locally and abroad.

You can also find Hoopty in heavy rotation on itunes internet radio
station Funk Republic Radio www.funkrepublic.com as well as
traditional radio stations; KSJS 90.5 and KZSC 88.1 in the South Bay

Neo-Vintage Funk. Drawing from the past, while pushing funk foreward,
all while keeping it on The One. Danceable, deep grooves. Singable,
memorable melodies, all written and played by musicians at the top of
thier craft, true masters of thier instruments. Musically complex and
ascessable at the same time, Hoopty appeals to those just wanting to
shake thier booty, and to those looking far deeper into the music. A
rare combination indeed.
